50 Acres Behind the Galveston Seawall for Sale

The Maceo family in Galveston is selling 50 acres of undeveloped land behind the seawall.

The Maceo family is selling several non-contiguous tracts located between the Galveston Seawall and Stewart Road, roughly at 99th Street. New development and redevelopment projects surround the properties up for sale.

The Galveston Municipal Golf Course, located north of the properties, is undergoing a $14.6 million renovation. Residential communities in the area are planning more than 400 single family homes and townhomes. And the Diamond Beach Resort and Spa under development by Randall Davis of Houston is located to the west.

Pat Pollan of Yancey-Hausman Interests Inc., which was retained to market the land, said it would be ideal for a major resort or mixed-use development.

"With properties selling for $12 to $15 per foot, we feel this property will draw attention across the country," said Pollan, senior vice president with Houston-based Yancey-Hausman.

The properties are being sold on a sealed-bid basis, with bids due by Aug. 27.

The acreage is one of the largest tracts available behind the seawall, said Pat Pollan, senior vice president of Yancey-Hausman, which is marketing the land for the Maceos.

The Maceo family has been one of the island's largest landowners. At one time the family owned the Balinese Room — once one of the country's hottest nightclubs where Frank Sinatra and Jack Benny performed.
